Northridge Makes Recovery in 10th

The Cal State Northridge baseball team, which lost a 6-0 lead in the eighth inning, rallied for two runs in the 10th inning to defeat Gonzaga, 8-7, in a nonconference game at Northridge.
Gonzaga (2-10) scored six runs, four of them unearned, to tie the game. Trailing by a run in the 10th, the Matadors (13-17) tied the score on a Darren Dyt sacrifice fly and won the game on a one-out single by Kevin Patrick.
In other baseball games:
Oxnard 6, Santa Barbara 1--Matt Pesso had three hits for Oxnard in a Western State Conference North Division game at Santa Barbara.
Pat Colburn allowed one run and struck out eight in 8 1/3 innings for Oxnard (12-5, 5-1).
Hancock 4, Ventura 3--Don Warrecker drove in the winning run in the top of the eighth inning for Hancock (10-5, 5-2) in a Western State Conference North Division game at Ventura.
David Arroyo struck out 10 in a complete-game effort for Ventura (5-9, 2-5).
SOFTBALL
CS Northridge 7-2, UC Santa Barbara 5-4--Ashlie Hayes, Augrista Belford and Traci Gillian each had two runs batted in for Northridge (12-8-1, 3-2-1) in the opening game of a Big West Conference doubleheader at CSUN.
Ventura 9, Canyons 1--Nancy Ortiz (6-6) pitched a four-hitter for Ventura (6-6) in a Western State Conference interdivision game at Canyons (4-7).
Andrea Wintermute doubled and tripled for Canyons.
Valley 11, Moorpark 4--The Monarchs took advantage of seven fourth-inning walks to score seven runs in a Western State Conference interdivision game at Valley (8-4).
Bonnie Lehigh took a no-hitter into the sixth inning for Valley before giving up four runs.
