Ocean View (26-4) vs. Fresno Washington Union (25-3)
7:30 TONIGHT FRESNO WASHINGTON UNION HIGH
High-powered Washington Union, the top-seeded team in the Southern California Division II playoffs, averages 90 points a game and has not lost to a California team this season. It lost three times during a tournament in Kentucky. The Panthers have four starters that average double figures in scoring, led by 6-9 senior Chris Jeffries, who has signed with Arkansas. Jeffries has played guard, forward and center this season and averages 19.8 points. Shamell Stallworth, a 6-4 senior swingman, averages 20.3 points; DeShaun Stevenson, a 6-6 sophomore guard, averages 16.3, and junior guard Coupe Taylor averages 10. Ocean View’s Tony Dow, a junior guard, was the co-most valuable player of the Golden West League. Reserve forward Garid Beeler, a senior, came off the bench to score 13 points in the Seahawks’ 54-48 victory over Torrance Bishop Montgomery in Tuesday’s first-round game. Dow had 11 points and 6-10 senior center Kevin Hanson, who has signed with San Diego, added 15 rebounds. “We have to shoot well and take care of the ball,” Ocean View Coach Jim Harris said. “We match up well size-wise. That’s something they haven’t seen.”
