GIRLS’ BASKETBALL GAMES AT A GLANCE

Brea Olinda (30-1) vs. Compton Dominguez (27-6)
7:30 TONIGHT BREA OLINDA HIGH
This has the makings of a track meet, as both teams like to push the ball up the floor and press on defense. Fourth-seeded Dominguez defeated Lemoore, 57-42, in the first round of the Southern California playoffs, but Lemoore led early as it kept breaking the Dons’ press. That bodes well for Brea, whose collection of guards can handle most defenses thrown at them. It was also the first game in the playoffs that Dominguez scored more than 53 points (Brea has scored fewer than 53 only three times this season). Shakitha Ashley, a 5-4 guard, has stepped up her game in the playoffs, averaging 20 points. Four of the five starters--the exception being MyAngela Turner (eight points)--have averaged 10-13 points in the playoffs. Dominique Montoya has averaged 13 points and has had 15 rebounds or more in the last three games. Dominguez defeated Glendora St. Lucy’s in the Southern Section Division II-A final, 41-32; Brea defeated St. Lucy’s on Tuesday, 67-26, going on a 32-2 run (including 17-0 in the second quarter).
