Rockwell Powers Cypress Past Saddleback in Softball

Mandy Rockwell led Cypress at the plate and on the mound in a 13-4 victory over Saddleback in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Wednesday at Saddleback. Rockwell, who had three hits and three RBIs, pitched a nine-hitter to improve to 6-2.
Jill Tantardini had three hits, a run and two RBIs for the Chargers (19-2, 5-0).
Saddleback falls to 12-5, 3-2 in conference.
In other Orange Empire Conference games:
Fullerton 4, Riverside 0--Michelle Harrison pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts for host Fullerton. Erin Scheppmann had two hits, including a two-run single in the fifth inning for the Hornets (8-8, 2-3).
Golden West 8, Santa Ana 7--Five of Santa Ana’s seven runs were unearned. Golden West took the lead in the sixth inning with three runs coming on two infield singles, two errors, an intentional walk, a wild pitch and two ground outs.
Irvine Valley 4, Orange Coast 2--Irvine Valley scored three unearned runs in the first and Alysia Atchley made it stand with a seven-hitter. Atchley also had two hits at the plate, as did Bobi O’Hara and Jen Stout, for the Lasers (4-10-1, 2-3).
In Orange Empire Conference golf:
Cuyumaca 372, Santa Ana 375, Saddleback 375, Golden West 418--Andy Clark shot a one-under 71 for Santa Ana (2-1) at El Prado. Jens Ullstrom also shot a 71 for Cuyumaca.
