1 Lane of Pacific Coast Highway Reopens in Each Direction

Caltrans officials Tuesday partially reopened a portion of Pacific Coast Highway that had been closed because of landslides over the weekend.
One lane of traffic in each direction was reopened at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday south of Las Flores Canyon, where a 350-by-220-foot chunk of hillside collapsed over the weekend, forcing closure of the highway, said Caltrans spokesman Vincent Moreno.
Moreno said the cleanup was 40% complete Tuesday, with bulldozers and trucks continuing to haul dirt and debris from the slide to the Kanan Dume Road reconstruction site.
Officials hoped to announce a schedule for complete reopening of all lanes by midday today. Until all lanes are open, drivers should expect delays of up to two hours during peak commuting hours, Moreno said.
