Gunshots Hit Transformer, Causing Explosion, Outage

Gunshots fired at a transformer in Torrance caused an explosion Monday night, leaving 1,200 Southern California Edison customers without power, including 150 who were without electricity for 14 hours, officials said.
The outage occurred after the transformer exploded and the wires were downed near the corner of Dominguez Way and Amapola Avenue about 9 p.m., said Edison spokesman Paul Klein. Crews worked overnight to restore power to the area, but 150 customers were without power until Tuesday morning.
Torrance police said the incident was apparently an act of vandalism. Officials said they have no leads in the case.
