Fund Created to Help Pay for Burial of 2 Boys

City Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg has set up a memorial fund for two toddlers killed Sunday when a fire swept through their Glassell Park apartment.
The late-night blaze trapped Damian Alfred Aranda, 2, his brother, Anthony, 1, and their mother, Doreen Mallyon, who remains hospitalized in critical condition. Firefighters were unable to reach the family because bars blocked the windows of their home.
The boys’ father, Alfred Aranda, who works in Goldberg’s district office, was buying groceries when the fire started. Fire Department officials suspect that a guest’s discarded cigarette triggered the blaze.
Donations will be used for burial costs and medical expenses. Checks can be made payable to the Damian and Anthony Aranda Memorial Fund and sent to Nancy Cervantes, Office of Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg, 3525 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, 90026.
