Developers Seek OK for Revised Home Plan
After modifying their plans in response to neighborhood concerns, developers proposing a large subdivision next to the Costa Mesa Freeway will again seek City Council approval of their project Tuesday.
Hearthstone Development Corp. in February asked the council to approve plans for 46 homes on 12 acres. The triangular site is bordered by Taft Avenue on the north, the freeway on the west and Morningside Street on the east.
But council members postponed their decision after neighbors argued that the project called for too many homes on too little land and would lower property values.
Developers have since reduced the number of homes to be built near Morningside from 16 to 13 and redesigned most to be one story instead of two, increasing privacy for existing homes. Instead, Hearthstone will put three more houses on the lots facing the freeway.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 300 E. Chapman Ave. Information: (714) 744-5500.
