Times Honored by Sports Editors

The Los Angeles Times was named one of the top 10 papers in daily sections, Sunday sections and special sections in the Associated Press Sports Editors annual judging.
Times columnist Bill Plaschke was a triple finalist in writing divisions. Plaschke was nominated with Steve Springer, Lisa Dillman and Mike Hiserman for investigative reporting.
Lisa Dillman and Lonnie White, and Ross Newhan and Sallie Hoffmeister of the Times were nominated for separate news stories.
Other triple section winners, for papers with more than 175,000 circulation, were the Dallas Morning News, Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel and Washington Post.
The Orange County Register was a top-10 finisher in over-175,000 Sunday sections, an honorable mention in daily sections and a finalist in page design.
The Palm Springs Desert Sun got a top-10 in under-50,000 special sections and an honorable mention in Sunday sections.
Other local writers honored: Mark Whicker, Orange County Register, column writing; Bill Plunkett, Palm Springs Desert Sun, game story; Joe Christensen, Riverside Press-Enterprise, enterprise reporting; Debbie Arrington, Long Beach Press-Telegram, game story; and Lisa Nehus Saxon, Riverside Press-Enterprise, game story.
