Councilman Dave Sullivan announced Wednesday he will run for county supervisor against incumbent Jim Silva, his former council colleague.
Sullivan, a retired dentist and 30-year city resident, was elected to the City Council in 1992.
Sullivan, 60, an opponent of a county agreement allowing development at Bolsa Chica, said that if elected he would move to have board meetings held at night and televised.
“I am about allowing people to have input,” he said. “Public oversight leads to more knowledgeable decisions and less waste in government.”
Silva, elected in 1994, is chairman of the Board of Supervisors. The other announced candidate for the June primary is former Costa Mesa Councilwoman Sandy Genis.
