Man Attacked Mother with Machete, Police Charge

CANOGA PARK — A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder Wednesday after he attacked his mother with a machete, police said.
Allen Meredith was taken into custody after officers were called to the apartment in the 6700 block of Independence Avenue about 4 p.m. in response to reports of yelling.
After arriving at the apartment, they found the mother lying on the floor bleeding from her back.
Meredith’s mother is in good condition at a local hospital after undergoing surgery for cuts to her lower back, said Officer Angela Grant, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department. The mother’s name was not released.
Meredith was being held in the Van Nuys Jail and being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
