Other opening games of the San Fernando Valley Invitational:
Cleveland 8, Grant 5--Javier Gomez had two hits, including a three-run home run during the Cavaliers’ four-run, seventh-inning rally, and also got the victory with three innings of relief.
Birmingham 3, Franklin 2--Rick Hooper doubled in Aaron Minor to tie the game, then scored the game-winner on Jame Hudgins’ single in the seventh inning at Birmingham (1-0).
Senior right-hander Joey Rubin pitched a three-hitter for Birmingham, striking out six and walking none.
Poly 5, Granada Hills 2--Freshman pitcher Abraham Gonzales threw three innings of impressive relief and his teammates made just one error as Poly knocked off the Highlanders. Dan Seidman had two hits and Kameron Loe allowed only one earned run in 6 2/3 innings for Granada Hills.
South Gate 10, San Fernando 0--The host Tigers were routed in their opener.
Eagle Rock 7, Canoga Park 5--Eagle Rock jumped to a 7-0 lead after four innings at Lanark Park.
Senior Carlos Gomez hit a three-run home run for Canoga Park (0-1) in the fourth inning. Gomez was three for three with three runs batted in.
