2 O.C. Water Districts Agree to Consolidate

Two of the county’s biggest water districts have agreed to merge.
Board members with the Coastal Municipal Water District and the Municipal Water District of Orange County recently approved the consolidation. Both agencies form Orange County’s principal wholesale water agencies.
The Local Agency Formation Commission of Orange County, which must approve the merger, will hold a hearing March 11 at the Hall of Administration in Santa Ana.
The consolidation, if approved, would take effect in 2001. A new board of directors would be elected in 2000.
Representatives from the districts said they expect the merger to save customers money.
