Assistance League to Honor Volunteer

Assistance League of Newport-Mesa will honor Karen Whitaker, a longtime volunteer and donor, at a March 20 celebration.
Whitaker, of Newport Beach, serves as volunteer manager chairwoman for the upcoming Toshiba Senior Class golf tournament benefiting Hoag Hospital. She is coordinating 800 volunteers.
Whitaker has been volunteering 16 years for hospital programs, and is active in Sandpipers, a fund-raising group supporting cancer awareness.
The league’s “Stepping Out: Night of the Stars Celebration” begins at 6 p.m. at the Sutton Place Hotel in Newport Beach. Tickets are $125 and proceeds benefit the League Children’s Dental Health Center, Kids on the Block and Operation School Bell.
