Job Placement Program to Receive $1.95-Million Grant
A 2-year-old educational organization offering job placement for young adults received a grant that will allow it to continue offering its programs, officials said.
The City Council approved the $1.95-million grant for the Kulick Youth Opportunities Program, said Barry Glickman, a spokesman for City Councilman Rudy Svorinich, who represents Watts.
Funding for the program, created in 1996 with a $3-million grant from the federal Department of Labor, was to run out at the end of June, Glickman said.
The $1.95 million is also part of a research and demonstration grant from the Labor Department for youth employment programs in Los Angeles, he said.
The Kulick Youth Program provides educational and vocational services to clients ages 16-24 and has served about 500 youth since July 1997, said project director Paula Minor.
The program is based in the former Watts Library building at 1501 E. 103rd Street.
