Four Area Soccer Teams Advance
Four Southern California Blues girls’ soccer teams advanced to today’s semifinals at the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships in Albuquerque.
The San Juan Capistrano-based club’s under-15 team defeated Nevada, 4-0.
The under-16 Blues beat Alaska, 7-0, getting two goals from Ally Halpern (San Clemente High). The under-18 team beat Oregon, 4-0. Jen Branham (El Dorado), Michelle Bannister (Canyon) and Ally Fennel (Mater Dei) scored. The under-19 Blues beat New Mexico, 3-0. Jill Pearson, an El Modena graduate, scored twice, and Sommer Hammoud (Los Alamitos)scored one.
The under-20 boys’ team will begin defense of its regional title today in Salt Lake City.
