Deputy Mayor Stephanie Bradfield, who has served as Mayor Richard Riordan’s chief government liaison since 1996, formally announced her resignation Thursday.

Bradfield will become vice president of communications and public affairs for the Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau. Her resignation is effective July 10.

As deputy mayor, Bradfield supervised relations between Riordan and the City Council, improving them from the depths they reached over the council’s threats to oust former Deputy Mayor Michael Keeley. She also initiated a number of projects for Riordan, including the generally well-received Targeted Neighborhood Initiative, which identifies communities in need of revitalization and attempts to build neighborhood organizations that can oversee improvements. “Stephanie has been a pivotal member of my senior staff,†Riordan said in a statement.
