Joe Yingling saved his best for last this season, almost single-handedly carrying Camarillo High into the Southern Section playoffs.
In three months of standout performances, Yingling’s actions in the final week of the Scorpions’ season were particularly impressive/
Against Agoura in Camarillo’s second-to-last regular-season game, Yingling, a senior catcher, had three hits, three runs batted in and threw out three baserunners. In addition, he pitched in the one-run victory and earned a save.
Two days later in the regular-season finale, Yingling, making only his second pitching start, threw a four-hitter against Thousand Oaks, clinching for Camarillo the Marmonte League’s third and final playoff berth.
Yingling, drafted in the 35th round by the Detroit Tigers, finished the season batting .524 with eight home runs and 43 RBIs. As a pitcher, he was 3-2 with three saves.
