Police Release Identity of Man Drowned in Pool
NORTH HILLS — A man who was found drowned in his family’s backyard pool over the weekend was identified by Los Angeles police Monday.
Juan Manuel Ortiz, 19, was found at the bottom of the pool at a residence in the 9100 block of Valjean Avenue at about 7:40 p.m. Sunday, police said.
Det. Al Aldaz, of the LAPD Devonshire station, said foul play was not suspected. The death was believed to be an accident, he said.
Authorities said Ortiz, who had a history of back problems and had complained about back spasms earlier in the day, apparently decided to stop working on his car and go for a swim. His relatives last saw him alive about an hour before they found his body, police said.
