Selfish Priorities Mean No Shelter

* Re “Anaheim Shuts Down Shelter for Children,” May 20:
Councilman Bob Zemel said he was embarrassed and ashamed that the council was closing down the shelter. As an Orange County resident and human being, I also find it disgusting.
To deny abused children a safe haven because it robbed neighboring residents of their quality of life (whatever that means) and created parking problems is shameful, embarrassing and disgusting.
Many years ago, a group of firefighters refurbished a home in my neighborhood that turned out to be a halfway house for troubled teenage girls. I’m not aware of a single problem the home has caused.
I say hooray to the Anaheim Firefighters’ Assn. for giving abused children a sanctuary. Shame on the majority of the Anaheim City Council and the residents who are more concerned with parking problems than the welfare of innocent children.
