Orange County sheriff’s deputies will continue serving Villa Park, but at a slightly higher cost.

The City Council recently approved a five-year contract, ending June 30, 2003, with the Sheriff’s Department. The contract is up 6.9% from this year, largely due to increased labor costs.

The contract will cost the city $604,105 for the 1998-99 fiscal year, which begins July 1. It also allows for potential increases in retirement rates for sheriff’s employees, which could result in additional costs to the city.

Under the contract, one deputy patrol unit will be assigned to the city around the clock. At night, however, a deputy will share patrol time with nearby unincorporated areas. The city also will receive investigative services.

The city, with a population of about 6,400, has contracted with the Sheriff’s Department for police services since 1962.
