Group Homes
The expose on the Orange County group homes was heart-rending (May 21-23). How can you call the series finished when the financial issues are not addressed? The math is easy: Six children in a group home at $60,000 each per year is $360,000.
What kind of oversight is there? Who is pocketing the cash when some children are not well-fed or well-clothed, or even well-supervised? Why don’t the homes contract with therapists, who should be seeing each child several times a week? What about tutors for inadequate academic skills?
So much good could be done with that money, so that taxpayers may avoid paying the $35,000 per year that future incarcerations will cost.
