Harbor Marketing Contract May Be Cut

Signaling a change in direction at Channel Islands Harbor, county officials are looking to cut funding for a local company that has been helping to promote the waterway.
The county Harbor Department is proposing a contract with Channel Islands Harbor Marketing Inc. for just $18,400--a far cry from the $80,000 annual deal the county signed with the company last year.
County officials are proposing to award the company money only to maintain the harbor’s visitor’s center, boat show and parade of lights through December, according to a staff report.
As part of a new master plan for the waterway, county officials are developing a new marketing program, so the future of promotional efforts at the harbor is still being put together.
