A 14-year-old boy on his way to school died Monday after he turned his bicycle in front of a car and was struck, police said.
The youth, Charles Turk of Santa Ana, was headed north in the 2300 block of Fairview Street about 10:40 a.m. when he changed from the far right lane to the center of the street, police said. But in doing so he pulled in front of a northbound car driven by a 79-year-old woman, police said.
Charles, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained severe injuries and died at the scene, police said. The woman was not charged.
Investigators said the boy was headed for the Warner Education Center.
