O.C. Players Named to All-American Softball Team
Pacifica pitcher Amanda Freed and her catcher, Tori Auela, along with Woodbridge second baseman Nichole Thompson were among 32 players named Thursday to the 1998 National Fastpitch Coaches Assn./Louisville Slugger High School All-American first team.
Shortstop Natasha Watley of Woodbridge was named to the second team.
The players will be honored July 27 in Phoenix, site of the American Softball Assn.’s 18-under Gold National Championships that week.

Six teams, including Southern Section champion Marina, will play in the 10th Marina Firecracker Classic girls’ basketball tournament today through Sunday at Marina High.
The tournament features a round-robin format. The team with best overall record is the winner. Admission is $4 per day.

Today--Pacifica vs. Marina, 2 p.m.; Palm Desert vs. Cypress, 3:30 p.m.; Ocean View vs. Estancia, 5 p.m.; Pacifica vs. Cypress, 6:30 p.m.
Saturday--Marina vs. Cypress, 8 a.m.; Palm Desert vs. Ocean View, 9:30 a.m.; Estancia vs. Marina, 11 a.m.; Ocean View vs. Pacifica, 12:30 p.m.; Estancia vs. Palm Desert, 2 p.m.; Cypress vs. Ocean View, 3:30 p.m.; Marina vs. Palm Desert, 5 p.m.
Sunday--Estancia vs. Pacifica, 11 a.m.; Ocean View vs. Marina, 12:30 p.m.; Pacifica vs. Palm Desert, 2 p.m.; Estancia vs. Cypress, 3:30 p.m.
