Fourth-seeded Gene Malin of Woodland Hills will play Steve Lott of Canoga Park in the quarterfinals of the USTA National Men’s 45 Hardcourt Championships today at Westlake Tennis & Swim Club.
Malin defeated Bill Roach of Papillion, Neb., 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), in the round of 16 on Thursday.
Lott defeated Roy Rocero of Stockton, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Guard LaCresha Clark, who played at Hart High and College of the Canyons, said she will transfer from New Mexico State to Chico State.
It will be the fourth school in four years for Clark, who set Canyons’ season scoring record in 1996-97. She attended Evansville as a freshman.
BOXING
Brothers Carlos and Rudy Martinez of Oxnard scored four-round victories Tuesday night in San Antonio.
Carlos (9-0) recorded a technical knockout over Rudy Hernandez of San Antonio.
Rudy, in his professional debut, won a four-round split-decision over Roman Trejo of Houston.
Both fighters are trained by Joe Goossen of Van Nuys.
