Francis D. Todd; Was Credit Union Chairman

Francis D. “Deets” Todd, 76, former credit union chairman at Hughes Aircraft. Todd held an MBA from Harvard and completed further management studies at UCLA. He joined the Hughes Aircraft Employees Federal Credit Union in 1951 and helped build it into the ninth-largest member-owned association in the country. As president, he supervised development of its five-story headquarters building in Manhattan Beach. Todd became a member of the credit union’s supervisory committee in 1964 and chairman of the committee two years later. In 1979, he was elected president (later changed to chairman) of the board of directors and held that position until 1987. For the next decade, Todd served as a director of the National Assn. of Federal Credit Unions. He won the national group’s volunteer of the year award in 1986. Todd was active in St. Andrew’s Abbey Catholic Church. On Sunday in Pearblossom, Calif.

Dick West; Radio and TV Scriptwriter

Dick West, 86, scriptwriter for radio and later for such television series as “My Three Sons.” Born Paul Hersey in David City, Neb., the writer came to California with his family in the early 1920s. He wrote for such radio shows as “Fibber McGee and Molly” and then moved into television family comedies--”My Three Sons,” “The Real McCoys,” “Ozzie and Harriet” and “Father Knows Best.” He was also a story editor and writer for “The Waltons.” His work over the years earned Emmy and Peabody awards. On June 15 in San Anselmo, Calif.
