Brothers Sentenced in ‘Date-Rape’ Drug Case

Twin brothers convicted of using the so-called “date-rape drug” Rohypnol to anesthetize five women and then sexually assault them have been sentenced to long prison terms, officials said.
George “Gino” Spitzer was sentenced to 60 years in prison, and his brother Stefan “Julian” Spitzer got 37 years and two months, said Victoria Pipkin, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.
Both 41-year-olds proclaimed their innocence in the hearing last week, saying that they may have been “jerks” to women, but they were not criminals, Pipkin said.
Judge Richard Neidorf called the brothers a danger to society and handed down maximum sentences in Santa Monica Superior Court.
Last month, a jury convicted George Spitzer of eight felonies. Stefan Spitzer was found guilty of seven felony counts. Their crimes occurred between 1993 and 1996.
Evidence against the pair included videotapes they made of their sex acts with women who appeared to have been drugged.
