Replacement Planned for Old Sewer Pipe

A 1,900-foot-long section of sewer pipe needs to be replaced at a cost of $327,000, water officials say.
The 30-year-old pipe is emitting odors in an area of Calabasas between Calabasas High School and Declaration Avenue.
The sewer line project will involve a reconstruction technique that “snakes down into the ground, bursts open the old pipe and then fits in a new section,” said Arlene Post, a spokeswoman for the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District.
The technique calls for less disruption of traffic, Post said. The city is to pay $70,000, with the balance coming from the water district.
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of August, Post said.
