An Orland Park delicatessen and catering service at the center of an E. coli outbreak that sickened up to 6,500 people was cited for 15 health code violations just before the illnesses were reported. Investigators suspect potato salad from Iwan’s Deli and Catering in suburban Chicago was the culprit in the outbreak that occurred on the weekend of June 6 but are awaiting more test results. Iwan’s got a below-average score during a surprise health inspection less than 24 hours before the city Health Department began receiving calls from people who got sick after eating food catered by Iwan’s.
