3.0 Earthquake Off San Clemente Island Jolts Coast

A small earthquake shook the Southern California coast Friday night.
The magnitude 3.0 quake struck at 8:13 p.m. about four miles northeast of San Clemente Island, said Lucy Jones, a seismologist for the U.S. Geological Survey. It was not an aftershock to a previous quake, she said.
There were no reports of damage or injuries.
San Clemente Island, about 60 miles northwest of San Diego, is controlled by the U.S. Navy, which uses it for weapons research and as a communications center for ships and aircraft.
