Gore Cautions Against a Rare Holiday Meal

WASHINGTON — Armed with spatula and meat thermometer, Vice President Al Gore flipped burgers Thursday and urged people to cook meat carefully at their Independence Day grill-outs.
“Don’t let avoidable food-borne illness endanger life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” Gore said.
Food safety experts say burgers should be cooked to an internal temperature of at least 160 degrees to ensure that illness-causing, sometimes-fatal, bacteria such as E. coli do not survive.
