The Patter of Little Hooves for Becky?
Becky the buffalo, a popular attraction at the Orange County Fairgrounds Centennial Farm, is back from a four-month excursion in San Juan Capistrano--and she may be pregnant.
Handlers transported the Northern American bison to Rancho Mission Viejo in hopes of breeding her, said Erin Hunt, a spokeswoman with the fairgrounds. The bovine gestation period is about nine months.
This would be Becky’s second calf. She gave birth four years ago to a male, Tatonka, who was later shipped off to a rodeo. If she gives birth again, the fair intends to keep the calf.
The fair bought Becky for $2,000 four years ago from the former Buffalo Ranch in Irvine. Becky will be on display at the summer fair, July 10-26 at the fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, 88 Fair Drive. Information: (714) 708-FAIR.
