Family Barricades Home From Police

SOUTH RIVER, N.J. — Three members of a family threatened police Wednesday and barricaded themselves inside an apartment lined with aluminum foil, which the family said was designed to keep out “moonbeams and rays from the outer planets,” according to a police spokesman.
Officers had gone to the home three times in the morning after neighbors reported a disturbance.
On the last visit, the man stood behind his wife with a sledgehammer and threatened them, police said. Officers said the couple’s adult son pointed a knife at himself.
One officer said the family members have not been stable since they were in a traffic accident last year.
