Police Issue Reminder That Fireworks Are Banned on Beach

The Santa Monica Police Department issued a reminder that the city does not sponsor a Fourth of July fireworks show at the beach.
Beach parking lots will close at sunset, and parking regulations will be strictly enforced, a police spokesman said.
City officials canceled the popular predawn fireworks extravaganza several years ago, saying they could not afford the $71,000 cost of the show that drew an estimated 250,000 people the prior year. Shows in past years also had been marked by disturbances.
No fireworks are allowed anywhere in Santa Monica, police officials also said.
Santa Monica College will host “Celebrate America” at the college’s Corsair Field on Friday, beginning at 5 p.m.
