Sir Speedy Sets Up in a Wal-Mart
Sir Speedy Inc. opened a pilot printing and copying shop inside a Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Supercenter in North Carolina to determine whether there is enough business to support such sites.
The Mission Viejo franchised-printing chain said it’s scouting locations inside other retailers as well. The 800-square-foot store in the Wal-Mart in Mount Airy is situated near the front entrance.
Stores within stores are becoming increasingly common, especially at Wal-Mart, the world’s biggest retailer. McDonald’s Corp. has franchised restaurants in Wal-Marts and other retailers, and National Vision Associates Ltd. operates eyeglasses and contact-lens stores inside hundreds of Wal-Marts.
Closely held Sir Speedy generated about $400 million in sales last year at more than 1,000 printing centers in 23 nations.
