Restaurant Gets Permit Despite Foes

Over the protests of Lido Isle residents, the City Council approved a six-month operating permit for Windows on the Bay, a restaurant and bar across the water from their homes.
Resident Paul Baldwin said the business is so close he can hear people talking as they sit on the restaurant patio and can hear the restaurant’s background music.
Council members, however, voted to give Windows on the Bay its temporary permit along with stricter operating conditions.
The council banned outdoor dining at Windows on the Bay after 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and after 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. No live music or special events, such as wedding receptions, are allowed outdoors.
Manager Scott Shuttleworth said the conditions are too strict.
“If you take all these constraints together, they eliminate the uses for a patio,” he said.
