Nine teams, including the Bullfrogs, have joined the new Professional Inline Hockey League that plans to start this spring, but four East Coast teams will not compete until 1999, league founder and Fullerton businessman Dennis Murphy said Monday.

Joining the Bullfrogs, who are expected to play at the Pond, are franchises in San Diego, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Phoenix. San Diego will play at San Diego State’s new Cox Arena, while the L.A. team, with Murphy as its majority owner, will be headquartered at the Sports Arena.

The four teams expected to begin play in 1999 include former Roller Hockey International franchises in St. Louis and Pittsburgh and new franchises in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and New York City.
