Center to Present ‘Native Blues’ Band
Valentine’s Day is for blues lovers this year at the National Park Services Satwiwa Native American Cultural Center in Newbury Park.
A free program called “Indian Time,” featuring the “native blues” of Tracy Lee Nelson, is scheduled for 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at the center. Nelson is a member of the Payoomkawichum tribe.
Nelson and his Native Blues band will perform songs from their new compact disc, “500 Years of the Blues.” Nelson’s songs tell the story of his people and the trials of all Native Americans since their contact with European cultures.
The center is on Potrero Road in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.
