Trustees to Consider Staggered Class Times

In an effort to cope with overcrowding, Anaheim City School District trustees may opt for staggered class times in some elementary grades.

The board will consider a plan today that would place first- and second-grade pupils on a schedule that overlaps morning and afternoon classes. Under the plan, there would be a 71-minute period, not counting lunch and recess, in which the two groups would share classrooms. Morning classes would run from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. and afternoon classes from 10:40 a.m. to 3:56 p.m.

The staggered schedules were recommended to the board by a committee of parents, teachers and residents who have been studying methods of easing enrollment problems in the district.

Committee member Jas Cisneros said the schedule would allow for more classroom space.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Staff Development Center, Building B, 1001 S. East St.
