Eltron Sells RJS Name and Bar-Code Unit
A subsidiary of Printronix, a computer printer maker, has spent $2.9 million to obtain the bar code verification business and the RJS name from Simi Valley-based Eltron International.
Eltron, which designs and manufactures thermal label and plastic card printers, will retain rights to the technology used in its integrated printing systems, as well as the QualaBar and ThermaBar industrial thermal printer lines.
Eltron acquired RJS in 1996, said Donald K. Skinner, chairman and chief executive officer. Eltron will continue to offer a broad range of bar code printers, Skinner said.
Irvine-based Printronix, founded in 1974, designs and manufactures line matrix, laser and thermal printers for business and industrial applications.
Eltron’s customers are in the health care, retail, manufacturing, automotive, package delivery, financial services and security industries.
