Kennedy Has Touch to Defeat Century
Kennedy was seven of eight from the free-throw line in the last 58 seconds to close out a 60-51 victory over fifth-ranked Century in an Empire League game Friday at Kennedy.
Century (15-5, 3-2) trailed by as many as 20 points but narrowed the deficit to four points with 58 seconds left to play. But fouls proved costly for the Centurions in the final minute.
Rickey Crowder had eight points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for Kennedy (11-10, 2-3). Teammate Tony Jimmerson scored 14 points.
Mike Zepeda had 15 points and Terrell Zoller had 14 points for Century.
In the Century League:
El Modena 66, Villa Park 59--Daniel Melton scored 14 points and Stefan Perovich had 13 points for El Modena. The Vanguards (10-10, 4-1) led at halftime, 30-29.
In the Olympic League:
Orange Lutheran 62, Whittier Christian 52--Kip Fox scored all nine of his points in the second quarter as Orange Lutheran rallied from a 22-18 deficit in the first quarter lead by four points at halftime. Jeff Kerns scored 14 points to lead the Lancers, who remain in a first-place tie with Calvary Chapel.
In the Orange League:
No. 4 Brea Olinda 70, Savanna 49--Chris McMillian scored 26 points and had seven assists to lead Brea Olinda (17-3, 3-1). Jeff Mason, leading the county in rebounding, had 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Wildcats.
William King led Savanna (8-11, 3-1) with 17 points.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Laguna Hills 77, Aliso Niguel 70 (2 OT)--Josh Pierson was fouled on a three-point attempt at the end of regulation and sank two of three free throws to force overtime. The Hawks pulled away in the second overtime. J.J. Sola scored 39 points for Aliso Niguel (10-11,2-3). Bill Reitkerk led Laguna Hills (16-5, 3-2) with 25 points and Pierson added 15.
In the Sea View League:
No. 1 Santa Margarita 80, Woodbridge 53--Dekker McKeever accounted for 10 rebounds and eight points. T.J. Williams, who had eight assists, and Ryan Forehand-Kelly each had 15 points for Santa Margarita, 20-0, 5-0.
El Toro 44, Corona del Mar 43--Mark Wulfemeyer sank two free throws with 20 seconds remaining to give El Toro the lead. Corona del Mar tried to score with seconds left, but the ball bounced off the rim as time expired.
Newport Harbor 53, Irvine 48--Newport Harbor’s Scott Archibald and Dustin Illingsworth each scored 14 points for the Sailors. Chris Ferguson scored 19 points to lead Irvine (13-8,2-3). Newport Harbor is 14-7, 3-2.
In the South Coast League:
Capistrano Valley 64, Mission Viejo 51--A strong fourth quarter helped Capistrano Valley. Josh Garrett had 18 points and teammate Jermaine McDaniel added 16 for the Cougars (14-6, 3-2).
Mater Dei 74, San Clemente 69--Mater Dei (11-6,3-2) had three players score in double figures as the Monarchs ended a two-game losing streak. Cedric Bozeman led the Monarchs with 18 points and Steve Scoggin and Mike Bayer each scored 17. Oscar Montecinos led the Tritons with 32 points.
Trabuco Hills 75, Dana Hills 67--Trabuco Hills made 13 of 17 free throws in the fourth quarter, including six of six by Ryan Webster in the last 90 seconds. Webster scored 17 points and Evan Fields had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Mustangs (12-9, 3-2). Dana Hills is 11-10, 4-1.
In the Sunset League:
Edison 69, Los Alamitos 68 (OT)--Raden Sami made two free throws with 19 seconds remaining in overtime to give Edison the lead for good. Sami scored 25 points to lead the Chargers (12-6, 3-1).
Los Alamitos missed the last shot in overtime. Matt Komer had 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Griffins (10-8, 2-2).
Fountain Valley 58, Huntington Beach 44--Ryan Moreau had 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds for Fountain Valley. Steve Rodgers added 10 points for the Barons (10-9, 2-2). Ryan Gale led Huntington Beach (9-12, 2-2) with 14 points.
