Mobley Headed for New Mexico
Quarterback Justin Mobley of Antelope Valley High said Thursday that he will make a commitment to New Mexico when he visits the Albuquerque campus for a recruiting trip this weekend.
Mobley, a Times’ All-Valley selection at defensive back, passed for 1,101 yards and 12 touchdowns and rushed for 636 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.
Arizona, Utah State and Idaho also recruited Mobley, but as a defensive back.
Former Cal State Northridge Coach Jim Fenwick, New Mexico’s offensive coordinator, recruited the 6-foot-2, 190-pound Mobley to quarterback the Lobos’ new run-and-shoot offense.
Quarterback Graham Lee will be a senior next season, leaving the job open in Mobley’s sophomore season.
“Coach Fenwick wants me to eventually be one of the top 20 quarterbacks in the nation,†said Mobley, who will visit New Mexico with teammate Joe Manning, a second-team All-Valley receiver.
Manning will decide next week between New Mexico, Fresno State and Louisville.
