POWs, Those Missing Remembered in Ceremony

Veterans, county officials and others will gather outside the Orange County Hall of Administration this morning to raise a black-and-white flag that has come to memorialize the nation’s prisoners of war and those missing in action.
The ceremony comes a week after the Board of Supervisors approved plans to fly the POW/MIA flag year-round in front of the county’s headquarters, in the Santa Ana Civic Center. The flag will fly below the American flag and below the state and county’s flags.
“I am very proud the county is taking this action,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Jim Silva. “The flag is a sobering reminder of the sacrifices made for all of us.”
The flag depicts in silhouette a man’s profile, barbed wire and a guard tower.
The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at 10 Civic Center Plaza in Santa Ana.
