It’s a Super Lineup of Specials and Marathons

NBC kicks off its Super Bowl Sunday coverage at 12:30 p.m. on Channel 4 with the “Super Bowl on NBC,” a special hosted by Greg Gumbel and Ahmad Rashad, from Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.
“Super Bowl XXXII,” which matches the defending NFL champion Green Bay Packers against the AFC champion Denver Broncos, follows at 3 p.m. Dick Enberg will call the game, assisted by color commentators Phil Simms and Paul Maguire. Jim Gray, John Dockery and Randy Cross will report from the sidelines.
But that’s not all, folks. This Super Bowl weekend is filled with specials, marathons and even special episodes of “3rd Rock From the Sun” and “The Tonight Show.”
Vince Cellini previews the Super Bowl weekend on TNT’s “Friday Night at the Super Bowl,” Friday at 7:30 p.m.
NBC offers “Behind the Scenes at Super Bowl XXXII,” Saturday at 4 p.m. on Channel 4.
Rockers, celebs and NFL stars play football on MTV’s “Rock-N-Jock Super Bowl,” Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
Jeffrey Ross and Dom Irerra chat with Super Bowl fans and players on Comedy Central’s “Offsides at the Super Bowl,” Saturday at 7 p.m.
For those who avoid the Super Bowl, there’s Turner Classic Movies’ “Busby Bowl,” which features 14 hours of vintage Busby Berkeley musicals. The marathon begins Sunday at 3 a.m. with 1931’s “Flying High.”
Another alternative: TBS presents its annual “The Andy Griffith Show” marathon, which features 31 episodes of the classic series, beginning Sunday at 7:30 a.m.
Today
CBS’ “Diagnosis Murder,” at 9 p.m. on Channel 2, features stars of both the feature and TV versions of “MASH” and its spinoff “Trapper John, M.D.”: Sally Kellerman, Elliott Gould, Loretta Swit, Jamie Farr, William Christopher and Christopher Norris.
Derek Jacobi returns in three new installments of the PBS “Mystery!” series “Cadafel” at 9 p.m. on KCET-TV Channel 28.
Brian Boitano and Elvis Stojko perform on USA’s “Skating Kicks Back: Country Music and More” at 9 p.m.
Russ Mitchell hosts “True or False: Teenagers Mean Trouble” at 10 p.m. on Channel 2.
Friday
NBC presents “America’s Endangered Species: Don’t Say Goodbye” at 8 p.m. on Channel 4. The “National Geographic” special celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Federal Endangered Species Act.
Fox resurrects its summer series, “Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction?,” at 8 p.m. on Channel 11. Jonathan Frakes of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” takes over hosting duties from James Brolin.
Saturday
Patsy Kensit headlines the Movie Channel’s “Human Bomb,” at 9 p.m.
Sunday
TNT offers eight episodes of “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” which takes off at 1:30 p.m.
After the Super Bowl, NBC presents a one-hour edition of “3rd Rock From the Sun” at 7 p.m. on Channel 4. Cindy Crawford guests as a beautiful alien intent on using the Super Bowl broadcast as an opportunity to take over the world.
CBS encores the acclaimed 1993 version of the beloved musical “Gypsy,” starring Bette Midler, at 8 p.m. on Channel 2.
“The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” offers a special Super Bowl edition at 10 p.m.
