Boy Bitten by Snake Released by Hospital

SANTA BARBARA — A 21-month-old Thousand Oaks boy who had been hospitalized after being bitten by a baby rattlesnake was released Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
Jacob Straitman was released from Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara and went home with his parents, a nursing supervisor said.
Doctors, who initially called his condition serious, had been concerned because baby rattlesnakes often inject a full shot of venom when they strike.
Crawling on the family patio Sunday afternoon, the boy was bitten by the 15-inch snake. Authorities say such attacks are rare because the snakes are seldom seen in winter.
