Inside Game Is Hurting
USC is still not getting as many easy shots as its opponents. Against California on Saturday, the Trojans left too many Bears open for easy baskets. Cal continually found the open man, many times right under the basket.
In the second half, Cal scored on 17 layups and made 21 baskets from inside the key. USC had four layups, two dunks and scored 11 baskets in the paint.
Freshman guard Jeff Trepagnier had both dunks. He rammed home the first after making a steal with 6:13 to play.
Trepagnier, who played only 15 minutes but scored 12 points, grabbed three rebounds and had two steals, remains the Trojans’ most athletic and explosive player.
Freshman forward Shannon Swillis, who leads the team in rebounds, averaging 6.7 a game, grabbed three against Cal. In 13 minutes of play, Swillis turned the ball over twice and was held without a point for the second game in a row.
