Sister Juliana Santee; Teacher, Social Worker
Sister Juliana Santee, 86, teacher, social worker and head of settlement houses from Taiwan to Missouri. She had been an active member of the Los Angeles-based Sisters of Social Service since 1946. She taught for them in Taipei and managed community centers and settlement houses in Kansas City, Mo., Sacramento, Los Angeles and San Diego. She also directed the sisters’ residence in Oakland for several years. Born in Williamsburg, Kan., the nun attended Immaculate Conception Academy in St. Mary’s, Kan., and St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kan. During the Depression, she taught at a one-room school in Delia, Kan. On Jan. 8 in Los Angeles.
