Playing It by the Numbers

OK, you guys, come clean. Are you really that clever or was it the editing coincidence of the century that in your Jerry West/Elgin Baylor article (“Legends of the Fall,” by Mark Heisler, Nov. 16), the segment detailing Baylor’s career concludes on Page 22 (Elgin’s jersey number) and then continues on Page 44 (Jerry’s jersey number) with the rest of the details about West’s career?
Either way, congratulations on that fine article about two of the finest gentleman ever to have graced the Los Angeles sports scene.

Heisler’s cover story brought back some fond memories, but West’s recollection might be a bit off. He mentions the old Pepperdine as being in Inglewood. Actually, it was in South-Central Los Angeles, on 79th Street between Vermont and Normandie avenues.
