Nesbitt’s Buzzer-Beater Ends Royal’s Win Streak

Liz Nesbitt’s 17-foot jump shot at the buzzer gave Thousand Oaks High a 50-49 victory over Royal Friday night at Royal, ending the Highlanders’ 16-game winning streak in girls’ basketball.
Royal (16-2, 5-1 in league play) trailed by eight points in the final three minutes. Teresa Russell made two free throws with seven seconds to play to give Royal a 49-48 lead. Russell finished with 10 points and 16 rebounds.
Elena Salvador scored 20 points to lead Thousand Oaks (10-4, 5-1). Nesbitt had 10 points.
In other Marmonte League games:
Newbury Park 58, Camarillo 48--The bench, led by Tawni Yamauchi (17 points, five rebounds) and Nadine Levsey (14 points, 10 rebounds), contributed 39 points for the Panthers (8-7, 4-2) at Newbury Park.
Simi Valley 61, Agoura 43--Jamie Sturdivant had 12 points, six assists and six steals to lead the Pioneers (10-6, 4-2) at Simi Valley.
FRONTIER
Moorpark 68, Santa Paula 21--Damaris Hinojosa had 19 points, nine rebounds and seven blocked shots for the host Musketeers (14-3, 3-0).
Nordhoff 78, Malibu 21--Nell Becker had 23 points and 12 assists, and Christen Roper had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Nordhoff (14-4, 3-0).
Calabasas 59, Santa Clara 57--Sarah Postler made a steal, drove the length of the floor and scored with three seconds remaining to give the Coyotes (8-6, 2-1) a victory at Calabasas.
Stephanie Goldman had 20 points and Postler added 16 points, nine rebounds, six assists and five steals.
RIO HONDO
La Canada 58, San Marino 46--Nina Han had 17 points and six assists while Christy Berendt contributed 11 points and five blocked shots for the Spartans (5-10, 2-1) at San Marino (8-8, 0-3).
The two teams combined for 68 fouls in the game.
VALLEY PAC-8
North Hollywood 62, Sylmar 34--Tashean Thomas scored 16 points and Claudia Villa had 12 for the Huskies (16-1, 2-0) at Sylmar.
Veronica Ramos had 26 points and seven rebounds for Sylmar (4-7, 0-2).
Grant 76, Canoga Park 26--Natalie Gabor and Nakeisha Perkins each scored 19 points for Grant at Canoga Park. Perkins also had 16 rebounds, eight steals and five assists.
Vicki Ash led Canoga Park (0-8, 0-2) with eight points.
Monroe 47, Reseda 43--Shakaria Jones had 14 points and six steals and Daria Pawlikowski grabbed 16 rebounds to accompany her six points for the host Vikings (2-5, 2-0).
Ig Herrera had 17 points for the Regents (5-8, 1-1).
Poly 53, Van Nuys 26--Quiana Jeffries had 14 points, five assists and four blocked shots while her sister, Ciara, contributed 12 points for the Parrots (3-8, 1-1) in their first conference victory in a game at Van Nuys (1-9, 0-2).
NORTHWEST VALLEY
Taft 40, Birmingham 32--Lisa Hawkins had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Toreadors (7-5, 1-1) at Taft.
NORTHERN
Belmont 79, Verdugo Hills 72--Maria Felix had career-highs of 25 points and 30 rebounds, but the Dons (2-11, 1-5) lost in double overtime at Belmont.
Hollie Hummitsch had 14 points and 19 rebounds for Verdugo Hills.
WESTSIDE
Montclair Prep 55, Santa Clarita Christian 22--Czarina Rinon scored 19 points and Laura Power added 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Mounties (4-5, 2-0) at Santa Clarita Christian.
